How to Buy a Car with Bad Credit

You are in desperate need of buying a new car, but you are also aware that you have really bad credit.  You don’t think there is much use in you even trying to get a car loan so you haven’t even tried.  Does this sound like you? What you don’t know is that even though you have bad credit, you can still get an auto loan!  This may not happen overnight, but definitely much sooner than you anticipate.  However, before this can become feasible, you have some work to do.

The first thing you must ask yourself is how is your credit score?  Before you even think about doing something else, you must get a copy of your current credit report in order to see where you stand.  Sometimes we are better off than we anticipate and your credit could quite potentially be better than you think.  This report may seem somewhat complex, but here is what you need to know.  If your credit score is 680 or more, you will qualify for very good interest rates. If your credit score is below 680, you can still get a loan, but you will find that there are not as many lenders set up to work with people with bad credit. However, at least there are still options regardless of the credentials listed on the report.

You won’t get a low interest rate with bad credit auto loan, but you can get a fairly reasonable rate, depending on which lender you go with. With that being said, do your homework! Go ahead and check out as many lenders who work with individuals like you.  Besides, it doesn’t cost you anything to shop around and you can be sure that you will find the best rate possible.  The type of lender you are looking for is called a “high risk” lender and they are in business to do everything possible to get you the best auto loan possible – depending on your financial situation.

Once you have found a few lenders like this, get quotes from all of them so you can compare.  By doing this you will not only see which lender will give you the best interest rate, but you will also be able to ensure the company is a reputable one.  You have to be cautious as there are some lenders who know that people with bad credit are a little more desperate to get a car loan than others and could easily try to take advantage of the situation which could result in you paying more money than you should.

If your credit score is very much below 680, it is highly suggested that you work on your credit before applying. If you have any late payments due on your credit cards then get caught up and be sure to never be late with a payment again. It is also good practice to not only pay the minimum amount due.  Pay as much above the minimum payment due as you can. If your credit cards are already maxed out, continue to pay on them and see about getting a secured credit card to help to build your credit. This will not be an overnight process as it could take several months, but the good news is that you will be able to build up your credit score to the point that you will have no trouble whatsoever in qualifying and applying for a loan.  Don’t let bad credit hold you back from what you want!
